A famous metropolis in South East Asia is only 450 km southwest of Nha Trang. It is now known as Ho Chi Minh City, or more prevalently known as Saigon, is the first stop for all travelers who are on their way to Nha Trang. Whether you choose to transfer flights, take a few days to roam the booming urban city, or take a 10-hour road trip, you'll sure find Nha Trang to be a pleasant getaway from all the hustle and bustle. During my recent trip after a 14-year absence from the motherland, my family and I chose the road trip. The transition from big city to little towns and the pure exquisiteness of the land was unforgettable. I highly recommend this mode of transportation to get to Nha Trang. It's not for everyone. You'll need a trustworthy tour guide for the long journey. (You can read more about my many road trips from my personal blog).

From Saigon to Nha Trang, you will pass through Phan Rang, Phan Thiet, Ca Na or Mui Ne among other towns. The highway narrows into one lane on each way of traffic as you exit Saigon. Any road trip in Vietnam will open your eyes to the level of poverty that's stricken the lives of the majority of Vietnamese. Just outside of Saigon in the northeast direction lie thick forests of gum trees on both sides of the highway.
